The Cost Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction, infrastructure, mechanical, or electrical projects. The role involves analyzing project drawings, specifications, and requirements to determine the total cost of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services. The engineer supports the tendering and budgeting processes and contributes to successful project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project documents (BOQs, drawings, specs) to prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Analyze project scope and break down work into measurable components for accurate estimation.
- Calculate material quantities, labor hours, and equipment costs.
- Solicit and evaluate quotations from vendors and subcontractors.
- Prepare and submit cost estimation reports for tenders and ongoing projects.
- Assist in value engineering and cost optimization activities.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams for input on cost items.
- Monitor market trends in pricing for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Support post-tender negotiations and clarify estimation assumptions.
- Maintain a cost database for future projects and benchmarking.
